Weather
Moon phase Waxing crescent | Hey guys. This is Case, and I wanted to talk about the upcoming spring weather. It looks like it will be warming up here in a short time, and I am certainly excited for the 2014 spring bass bites and tournaments. I am planning a trip to Lake Springfield this weekend for the preseason spawning. Spring is one of the best times to catch bass because the bass start moving to deep water when the water temp. is 45 degrees and rising. You might find them at 2- 12 feet of water. When fishing, go the the northwest side of the lake, and fish logs, rocks, brush piles, points, spawning flats etc. in the spring time. When the water temp. is 55-65 degrees, the bass will move to shallow waters. They seek this for protection and warmth. The spawning will happen in the sun 10 feet off the bank or less in 1-6 feet of water. This is where they will also make their nests. The male is the one that watches the nest, so he chooses a place that is easy to defend, and has the affect of getting food without leaving the nest. He puts it where he can see prey, but prey can't see him. This counts for the edge of grass, piles, rocks, logs etc. Post spawn will occur about two weeks after spawn so the bass can recuperate. They will then move deep water even as deep as 20 ft to avoid the intense heat of early summer and summer. |
